I just got back from the John Mayer concert.
Excuse me, I need to go change my pants...
Ahh... that's better. So, basic review?
Maroon 5 opened, which was nice. They're not as much fun in a big amphitheater as when in a small park and I'm right next to the stage. This time around, I was in the second tier of seats, excellent seats, but not really up close and personal. But they were good, as usual, though I'm sad they didn't do their cover of "Closer" by NIN, since it's hysterical when they do it. They did they're regular stuff off the CD, and while I love the CD, they need to do some new stuff soon, since it's starting to get a little formulaic in the concerts.
Counting Crows was next, and I don't know much about them, or their music, but I did enjoy it a great deal, since they do put on a good show. It was fun when they sang "Hanging Around" and brought out the entire crew, all the families on tour with them, and the guys from Maroon 5 to play with them, it was a big 'ol party up on stage, fun to watch.
And then there was John. Mmm.... John Mayer goodness...
He opened with "No Such Thing", which is great in concert, but I have to admit, even I change the radio station now when it comes on. He played about 9 or 10 songs, all of them done well. 2 new ones off his new cd (coming sept.) were played beautifully, "Come Back to Bed", and my personal favorite "Daughters". Both songs are very bluesy, and beautiful. I swear, I have never been so giddy, and acting like a 16 year old fangirl. It was scary, actually, but a loooot of fun, and there is no doubt that I will be going to another concert as soon as the oppurtunity presents itself. I think my next goal is to get backstage passes to a concert of his, so I can become uber fangirl and scare myself with my oogling ways.
Yes, I'm going to admit it, I'm a John Mayer Fangirl.
But, honestly, his music and guitar skills make it worth it. The highlights of the show had to be when he started soloing on his guitar during "Come Back to Bed" and broke his high E guitar string, but went on anyway; stealing a girl in the front row's camera and proceeding to snap pics of each band member and himself with it, verbalizing a letter to the owner of the camera ending with "Well, gotta finish the song now. Talk to you soon, love, John Mayer" before handing it back; inviting Jimmy Valentine (lead guitarist of Maroon 5) to join in on "Neon", then challanging him to see who could play the worst, cheesiest guitar solo, and Jimmy admiting defeat when John played an awesome solo.
Great show. I'm going to sleep now, and maybe have happy dreams where the encores never end.
*wanders off to bed, humming the chorus to "Daughters"*
Fathers, be good to your Daughters, Daughters will love like you do. Girls become lovers, who turn into Mothers, So Mothers, be good to your Daughters too.
