Oog. I guess I should rant. =}
Yesterday was my 'first' day of work. I now currently work as an 'intern' at Comics One as a graphic designer.
This all started sometime two weeks ago when their current full time graphic designer left so they moved their part timer up to full time and put out an add for a position. Well, I applied for the job and got no word back.
A few days later, Nats tells me my chances for the position look slim because they plan on rehiring an ex-comics one graphic designer. How sad. Why'd they put the ad out anyway? They were considering hiring an 'unpaid intern' as well as this previous worker. Whee. Well, anyway, last week, their "part timer" gets fired. Now, left with no graphic designers, they tell Nats to tell me to come in Monday =}
So I did =}
My first day was a bit rocky. They wanted me to do an ad for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. They set me down and told me where things were and showed me an example ad and basically said, "OK, start." So I did. I looked in the two folders they showed me to look in for sample art and found it very lacking... it was mostly black and white stuff and the ad was to be in color. So I shimmied over to the scanner and scanned in an image I thought would work as a good ad and went about photoediting the text out.
Two hours later, my 'boss' turns to be and says "Oh, we have that image without text already. It's in this folder." and proceeds to show me another folder. Whee. I must look like a moron. ^^;;; And I had already removed half the text too. Oh well.
So I get the new textless version and make an ad out of that. An hour later, I show my boss who says basically, "It's too simple. You should make it more interesting." I was like... eh? It's more complex than the sample you showed me. I didn't want it to look completely different from what you showed me.
Their response? "Oh, that's a bad ad. Lemme show you some good ads."
Why didn't they show me the good ads to begin with? =O.o=
*sigh* Well, there went 3 hours. I went to lunch with Nats and when I got back from lunch, I got started on revision 2 of the ad. By the time I left, I showed my boss and she seemed pretty pleased with the ad... except for the font I was using. It was too "plain".
Of course, she has no suggestions on what font to use... that's up to me. So now today, I have to look through the billions of fonts they have to find one that looks good for the ad. Whee.
All in all, not a bad day... I just wish communication and planning was a bit better here. Anyway, I'm not an 'unpaid' intern... I am going to be paid. I dunno how much yet, but they I'd get paid every month and I guess I don't mind since I don't have anything really better to do and I've gotta drive Nats to work everyday anyway, it saves me a trip there and back =}
