AAARGH! heh. Actually, I think I was the one who brought up the "cut toward the center of the earth" part. I remember distinctly that it wouldn't just stop at the core, but continue to sling around only being slowed by gravity--but also drawn in by gravity as well--dicing the earth's insides in the process. "cutting thru anything* should mean no friction; because if there was friction, then there would be *something* out there that would provide enough friction that it wouldn't be able to be cut. use generic terms, get outrageous results. >_>
