Yesterday I got laid off at Vis-a-vis Inc. It turns out that the company was running out of money. I wasn't the only one. Other workers got the ax too. Practically the whole creative department is dead. There wasn't even a warning. However there was a dark cloud that loomed over us foreshadowing these events. They called us in one by one to tell us we've been canned. However They told me that I was back on "contract" since they still had one project left to finish up. So I'm on a call basis if they need me to work on stuff. I'm feeling quite overwhelmed now. What pisses me off was that there wasn't any warning so now I have to gather up a portfolio here and get some cover letters. Plus in the pass we had production meetings and they would always say that there were always project coming in and that the company was doing well. All that was just icing on the cake. They never did talk about income or finances. Now I know why. Anyway, it's good to know that I didn't get fired because I wasn't a good worker. It was on their end that I lost my job. We have so many fuckin' idiots up in management. We've worked on freebie projects for big companies just to kiss their asses. Our lead animator told them that freebies were a bad idea but they didn't listen. I understand, sure maybe we want to build a good relation with potential clients but we're providing them a service. Anyway, I feel like shit now. However my co-workers and I have started a network so that we will help each other out find stuff out there. For now I must gather all the work I did here and create a portfolio.
