Actually, you spelled "Ouija" correctly.

As for learning about it and how it is used, you may just want to read the manual. What it is, simply, is a board covered in letters and basic concepts (e.g. "Yes," "No," etc.) accompanied by a "planchette" which is a small spade-shaped object with soft feet that can slide smoothly across and point to symbols on the board.

The "game" is played by having people sit around the board and place their fingers lightly on the planchette. Then, someone asks a question. The planchet then (may) move to indicate, by letters or words, an answer to the question.

It's hard to play God when you haven't had your first cup of coffee in the morning....

If you want one, you could just visit most any game / puzzle store, and if they don't have it, they could order it for you. You can even pick one up on Amazon.

This is Hasbro we are talking about, here.

As to whether they are "evil or something," I, being a scientist, would have to say "something." No tool, or any other object for that matter, is inherently evil. It is only the persons who use them, or the ends to which they are used, which can be judged as "evil." As with any other divinatory items, be they Tarot cards or thrown bones, evil is in the mind of the users, not the device.

There are those who would claim that the Ouija board gains its "power" of "divination" from the Spirit World (tm) or other such paranormal sources and so some may then consider the attempt to tap into such "demonic powers" evil.

Odd that such power would be vested in something churned out of the Parker Brothers factories by the hundreds of thousands since 1967. (Yes, the same people that brought you Monopoly.)

Frankly, no paranormal reason for the "effectiveness" of a Ouija board has yet to hold up to any sort of scientific scrutiny. More often it comes down to the unconscious, or often quite conscious intent of the persons with their fingers on the planchette.

Were you to find yourself playing with a group of friends, you may wish to observe a not-so-psychic little tug-of-war starting when two people have very different intentions as to what they want the answer to be.

So, the real nature and purpose of the device in mind, I find it quite harmless. If people do not intentionally skew the results and instead allow sub-conscious intent to initiate subtle motor control, such a device might even be an interesting tool to gain personal insight.

En garde, s'il vous plait.

Beware! For you do not know the powers that you are trifling with!

Having toyed with Angels, it takes a lot to startle Dr. Akagi

Just kidding.

Really.

Ouija boards are harmless.

Well..."Mostly Harmless," to borrow a phrase from The Good Book.

Like she said, it all depends on how you look at them and what you try to do with them.

alright thanks alot!! i been like all like i dunno. but i thought it was cool and my parents thought it was evil but nnow i can tell em!!! thanks!!!

So, ladies, does this buckle your swash?

Alucard Tepis
Well...only as evil as Monopoly.

But then again, I've known enough anti-capitalists in my day that would find more to fear in children playing Monopoly than with a Ouija board.
