I don't know...there is a significant difference between childish and child-like.
There are people who like to regress from time to time and do something that reminds them of their childhood, because it amuses them. But, these people are mature most of the time, and only act child-like to let off some steam. Why do you think you can still find a gaggle of 20 and 30-somethings playing miniature golf on a Friday night?
Frankly, if you try to act serious and mature all the time, then you can bring an unhealthy level of stress on yourself. And besides...you're 14...you are still a "kid" in the eyes of most adults.
However, I do agree, there are those people that are childish and immature. They don't know how to act maturely, so they won't. If they act like a little kid all the time, and refuse to act maturely when they need to, then they are going to have more and more trouble as they get older, but don't bother "growing up."
I don't know enough about your friend to say which way he is headed, and I hope on his account, this is all just some innocent fun.
