| Its just a game...but |
| Ok so i host a free server for an online gameand I have kept it limited to a pretty tight group of players. Things have been going good for a while till I notice someone hacking and accessing character models they shouldn't be able to (Like the Admin models). Granted, that kind of hacking is pretty harmless, but if they can do that, they can also hack other players or make corrupt items or even make crash hacks that do nothing but force anyone who tries to load their player to instantly crash. They could just sit in the main lobby of the game and crash anyone who tries to play. Now my server software lacks any kind of adminstration functions whatsoever, so I can't really block the guy...i think. Any advice on what I should do to try to keep hacking from my server?

It sounds like you're in a dead end... if your server software really lacks all those controls, it sounds like the hackers have more power. What kind of game server is it? Surely, there are upgrades or newer versions that have better administrator controls... otherwise, it sounds like you should just hack your own characters to crash the would-be hackers.

If your admin software really lacks the ability to log users who enter your server and access your files, you really are out of luck. The first step to stopping the enemy is learning who they are.

Well i got the whole population of the server keeping an eye out and keeping tabs for me. I heard i could get something called a sniffer..i think and log events that way. Is there a way to keep a specific IP from accessing anything on my computer while allowing all other IPs to continue as normal?

If you have a router... or some kind of hardware or software firewall, then yeah, it's possible to ban IPs like that. If not, it would really depend on your OS.
