| PCI Express and AGP |
| Is it true that AGP is gonna be replaced by a new bus called PCI Express and if so should I hold out on getting a new video card?

While PCI Express does offer very lucrative increase in speeds for graphical interfacing, this change in technology will not effect the current users unless they change their motherboards. Basically, you'd have to buy a new motherboard, possibly computer, to enjoy the new features of PCI Express.
The weakness of the old PCI design, besides the slow bus architecture, was that it was a send-and-wait request process, which would only process one send at a time. AGP, on the otherhand, would process multiple sends. The other weakness of PCI was that its lines were shared with the entire system, whereas AGP is tied directly with the memory and allowed for faster access times.
It'll be interesting to see the new design. If PCI-Express is still wired to the entire system, as opposed to being a memory only bus link, it may not become quite the hype it is becoming now.

On the other hand, are you willing to spend $500 or more on a new video card, on top of $300 for a new PCI-Express compliant Motherboard?
