I don't suppose you could get someone else to do the dirty deed?

Baring that...find your heaviest shoe and comfort yourself with the thought that all spiders have very fragile bodies. I don't suppose you knew that if you were to drop a tarantula off a table, the fall would kill it? Also, most of them don't have fangs long enough or sharp enough to pierce your skin, let alone deliver enough venom to be harmful to humans. If it helps, use the web and try to figure out what kind of spider it is.

Knowledge being power, consider yourself well armed. Well that, and wielding a big shoe should help.

(On the other hand those that might be painful, if not all that dangerous, do tend to be the fuzzy ones...so I would recommend against missing.)

Unfortunately for you, among spiders, the females are the ones that tend to be larger than the males, and they get quite large before they lay several dozen, if not hundred, eggs.

Great job Dr. Akagi.... Scare the poor girl.

I'd suggest, bakaneko, grabbing one of your malodorously footed friends and have them take care of it, if you don't think you could get in a good shot. And as for shoes, that was just a basic suggestion. Anything relatively heavy and club-like with a flat surface will do. Books can work, as well.

If you are concerned about getting something...ichored, then I'd suggest using a grocery bag to cover it.

It'd behind the bookcase tho which is kinda against the wall except for a lil space.. O_O a shoe won't reach there... WHAT DO I DO!?

Hmmm...I suppose saying, "Hope it eats the bugs behind the bookcase," will not give you all that much comfort.

The last thing any spider wants to do is try to hunt humans. They only bite when threatened (you stick your hand in their web or try to catch them in the open).

Given all the time that has passed, it likely has moved on. If it makes you feel any better, I would recommend getting some help to move the bookcase to check behind it and reassure yourself that it has left your room. If you find it, you can squish it, then, for your peace of mind. If you can't move the bookcase, then there is not much that you can do, so let the poor thing be, as long as it stays out of sight.

but so big and hairy..!! I have to move my desk in order to get at the book case.. its at the side of the desk and the dresser is right next to it.. the bookcase is stuck at the corner.. if that makes sense..

moo.. would moving these things cause it to be frightened and come out of its hiding spot.. is there a way of getting rid of it without me having to get near it?! O___O

I'm generally not one to advocate Chemical Warfare...but there is that option if you absolutely must.

I've tried to reassure you as best I could, that the spider is unlikely to harm you...but I do understand that some people suffer from arachnophobia.

If there is no other way for you to get a good night's sleep, and if there is a slot that you can reach, you can just spray into the crack with an anti-spider insecticide. Get as much of the area behind the bookcase as you can reach, and keep a sharp eye out to see if the spider doesn't come running out when you attack it. But try not to breathe any of the fumes and you probably should open a window until the smell of the stuff dies down.

The spider's probably gone already, but if gassing the spider will make you feel better, then if it was still hiding back there, it will be dead.
