DraconicOtaku Observation on Americanization In a recent call, the travesty of the conversion of Cardcaptor Sakura to the Americanized Cardcaptors was mentioned. While I agree that they woefully transformed it (the American voice actress for Tomoyo/Madison sounds like she can't carry a tune in a bucket >_<), the truth is, if me and my sibs hadn't seen Cardcaptors on TV, we wouldn't have started picking up the uncut Japanese subtitled version... nor would my family still be picking them up, as fast as they can be released! I admit that, in several cases, the Americanized dub version is a mockery of the original (the butchery of Escaflowne for a certain kids' network sticks in my brain), but sometimes an otaku can rise phoenix-like from the wreckage of an Americanized anime... Keep the hope alive. Riku Oh sure, but that doesn't mean we can't lament because a good anime got butchered ^^ Everyone's got to have something to complain about! Okay, I know that they had to drop the bits with the wine, since it was a kids network showing it, but [i]still...[/i] *sigh* Okay, no need to for me to bring it back up... Anywho, now that I think of it, there [i]is[/i] one barely redeemable quality of Americanized dubs: If you actually [i]like[/i] the dubbed form, you'll probably [u]love[/u] the original Japanese form!
