| Memorization |
| I finally landed my first real job! I'm going to start working as a part time cashier at a grocery store. Now, they're going to give me all my training (and pay me for the time too! Yay!) but one thing I have to do myself is memorize fifty 4-digit codes that go with various fruits/vegtables. I'm not bad at memorizing things, but I do have a limited time to learn these (less than a week) so I was wondering if you could suggest any strategies for memorizing these ^_^

When learning things and forcing memorization, making flashcards can be useful. If you can visualize an association between the number and the fruits and vegetables, it should make it easier.

And if you didn't finish memorizing them all, make yourself a cheat-sheet! You're not in school so it's alright to have reference materials.

You can take a small amount of comfort in the fact that most fruit has a sticker on it with the critical number, but I figure that you will probably be tested on this, anyway.
Mizuho has a good suggestion, regarding flashcards, to associate the produce with the number. If you can clip out a picture of the item qnd put it with the name on the flashcard that can help. Also, when you are working at memorizing the items, say the name of the item and the number out loud. You may want to do this while alone, since it will be rather strange to any outside observer. The real "trick" here is to try and engage as many parts of your brain at once (visual-recognition, linguistic, computational) so that the association between the name and number gets written in your wetware as redundantly as possible.
