| Anime, Video Games, and Fanime |
Well, Fanime was a few weeks ago, and I ran a panel on Anime and Video Games, and needless to say, it went awry.
So, I know have about 10 months before the next Fanime, and I want to try the panel again.
Now, if you were in my position, and wanted to run a panel on Anime and Video Games, how would go about doing it? Who would you invite? What special things would you do?

Well, Anime and Video Games is quite a diverse topic. If you want to run a panel, such as this... you'll probably need a direction you plan to go.

First and foremost, gather as many examples and resources that you can. Having a laptop and asking to use a projector would be a good start as well. If you can load up examples on your laptop of images, screen shots, actual ROMs and games, and possibly FMVs, it's a good way to present your ideas to a group.

After you have all the examples you want to display to a group, try to figure out an idea or thesis to your presentation. If you want a more interactive, question/answer type panel, try to leave your ideas very open ended for discussion. Also, if you have it in you budget, coming up with a one or two page hand out for people to read or look at to give them an idea of where you are coming from or where you're going would be a good idea.

If you want to set up a more interactive display, you could also ask members of the audience to play the actual games as you present them; give them a working timeline of the dates of the games and the how and when they came out and how game play evolved over time. It might also prove interesting to do a contrasting view of how video games evolve from anime (such as Dragon Ball Z) versus how anime evolves from video games (such as Pokemon).

Hopefully, this'll give you a good idea of how to run a panel next year. Panels are hard things to plan but as long as you think on your feet, things will hopefully turn out alright. Good luck!
